How to play Reactordle
Reactordle asks you to name a nuclear power station in six tries. The four columns are country, a capacity band, the decade the plant first fed the grid, and whether it is running, shut down or still being built.
You get 6 guesses. Each one is scored against 4 columns - Country, Power band, Grid connection and Status - and the scoring is the whole game: you are narrowing a field rather than naming it cold.
Status is exact or nothing: the cell turns green when your guess holds the same value as the answer, and stays blank when it does not. Country can hold several values at once, so it can also come back as a close match: yellow means your guess and the answer share at least one value without being the same set. Power band is a band, and it is scored on how far apart the bands sit: the same band is green, one band either way is yellow, and further away is blank. Power band also carries an arrow towards the answer's band. Grid connection is a number, and an arrow points from your guess towards the answer, so a wrong number still tells you which way to go.
A column the source leaves blank is marked as having no data rather than scored. It cannot come back green for anyone, on any guess, which means an unrecorded value is never a lucky hit - and the gap itself is a fact about the record, so the grid shows it instead of hiding it.
How the columns behave
Capacity is compared as a band rather than an exact figure, and the arrow tells you whether the answer's band sits higher or lower than your guess. Where the source record carries no capacity at all the cell reads unknown, and an unknown never scores as a match for either side.
Grid connection is the decade a plant first delivered power to the grid, taken from a dated statement on the record rather than inferred. Status is derived from the same record and reads operational, shutdown, under construction, or unknown where the source will not support a call. A substantial part of the pool is already shut down, and the grid-connection decades cluster heavily in the 1970s and 1980s, which is the shape of the industry rather than an artefact of the data.
What this game will not ask you
Accidents are not a puzzle mechanic here. Chernobyl, Fukushima Daiichi and Three Mile Island are all in the pool, as plants, and can be guesses or answers like any other, but nothing in the game scores or quizzes you on what happened at them.
That is enforced rather than promised. The build step refuses to freeze a dataset whose columns are framed around incidents, accidents, disasters, casualties, meltdowns or radiation, so no such column can reach the grid. Those events appear only as context inside the reveal text quoted from Wikipedia, which is the appropriate register for them and the only place they belong.
The data behind it
The 296 stations, with their countries, capacities, grid-connection dates, operators and operating status, come from Wikidata under CC0 1.0, retrieved once and frozen into the game. Nothing is fetched while you play and nothing about the answer reaches your browser before the round ends.
The calendar is 296 days long and uses each station exactly once, ramping within each week from the plants the wider world writes about towards the ones it does not. Where a value is genuinely missing the cell says unknown and scores against both sides, which is preferable to a confident fabrication.
What you take away
The reveal gives you the plant's verbatim English Wikipedia extract under CC BY-SA 4.0, a link to the article, and sourced facts such as the year of first grid connection and the operating company. Up to four bonus rounds follow, comparing other plants in the set rather than the day's answer.
What accumulates is a working map of civil nuclear power. You learn which countries built at scale and when they stopped, how big a large station actually is next to a small one, and how much of the fleet has already shut down.
Where the data comes from
Reactordle is built on one openly licensed dataset, frozen into the game before it goes out. The licence is named next to each one above, and the same list, with the per-record detail, is on the Reactordle attribution page.
The writing you get on the reveal is english Wikipedia verbatim extract plus sourced facts, CC BY-SA 4.0. It is quoted or generated from the source, never written by a language model while you play, and it carries its own credit and licence line wherever it appears.
The pool holds 296 entries and the calendar already runs 296 days, one answer a day, no repeats. That sequence was built offline before release and ships inside the game, so it is the same for everyone and nobody can read tomorrow out of the page. The day rolls over at midnight UTC.
Nothing is lost when a day ends. Every puzzle that has already run stays playable in the archive, and its answer, with the same reading you would have got by finishing it, is published the day after it ran.

- Does the game quiz me about nuclear accidents?
- No. Accidents are never an attribute, a column or a bonus question, and the build step rejects any dataset framed that way. Chernobyl, Fukushima Daiichi and Three Mile Island appear as plants, and their histories appear only as context in the reveal text.

- Yes. Every player gets the same station on the same day, rolling over at midnight UTC, from a calendar fixed before release.
